Southern
Thailand
Page Three
|
| Here on page three I'm going to continue with some
pictures of the outlying areas before we go back to Ao Nang Beach.
If you do go to Krabi, I hope you do rent a motorcycle (180 baht
for a Honda 50 at the Peace Laguna) or car and do some exploring.
The surrounding area is beautiful, and it's good to see some "real
Thailand." |
 |
Five minutes north of Ao Nang Beach is the beach
of Noppharat Thara. If you look at the first picture I put up,
the one of the whole beach from the water, you can see Noppharat
Thara beginning to the left of the headland that ends Ao Nang.
This picture is not the beach proper, but rather a tidal basin
at low tide. I thought it was a lovely scene. The beach itself
was very interesting, because at low tide you can walk out a long,
long way on a mud flat that is covered with thousands of little
crabs that come out to play. This shot was a little prettier,
though. |
| Noppharat Thara has plenty of parking and lots of
little eateries and gift shops for the tourists, who are probably
more Thai than foreign. Even if you don't rent a vehicle you can
go on foot; I saw people jogging over to it one morning when I
had gotten up early. |
 |
 |
I started riding north toward Phang Nga, and then
cut west toward the Andaman Sea. I didn't find too many beautiful
seascapes, but I did find plenty of beautiful landscapes. |
| OK, I know that sunsets are beautiful all over the
world, and don't really say much about the area. But I must say
that the sunsets were incredibly beautiful in Krabi, like something
I never see in Japan, and the longtail boats add a little character,
too. I got lots of gorgeous sunset shots, and this one might be
my favorite, taken right off Ao Nang Beach. I personally think
it looks as good as the "Cancun Sunset" desktop they
included with the Mac OS8, but then I'm biased. |
 |
 |
I took this picture standing with my back to the
Phra Nang Inn, looking down toward the beach. You can see the
sea on the original, but it seems to have faded into milky white
on my monitor. Anyway, this is the where the beach road turns
to go up toward the Peace Laguna Resort. There are clothing stands
in the foreground and Thai pancake stands down at the end across
from the beach. If you go, you have GOT to try the pancakes. |
| For a little human interest, here's a picture of
a pretty young lady who worked at a shop across from the Krabi
Resort. Here she's writing up my roll of film to have it developed.
Three times I've been to Thailand, and three times I've gotten
beautiful developing - much better than in Japan. Anyway, if you're
in the market for clothes, sandals, or a fake Rolex, visit my
smiling friend here. |
 |
 |
I can't help putting in one more plug for the
Peace Laguna Resort. Here are my two kids
posing by a carving at the hotel restaurant where we ate most
of the time. It really was a lovely and peaceful spot to take
our meals. |
| This is the end of my little tour of the Krabi area.
We also went to Koh Phi Phi on the same trip, which I've made
a separate presentation. You can check it out also, if you'd like.
If you're really serious about going to Krabi and would like to
see unromanticized pictures the hotels I've mentioned, go ahead
and click "Krabi Hotels" below. Anyway, hope you enjoy
your trip to Thailand. |
